Day-by-day itinerary

1Day 1 — Arrival & Ottoman Sarajevo

Land in Sarajevo, settle in, then start where the city itself started — in the 15th-century bazaar.

  • Private transfer from Sarajevo International Airport to your hotel
  • Evening walk through Baščaršija: the Sebilj fountain, Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque and the coppersmiths' alley
  • The 'meeting of cultures' line — Ottoman east and Austro-Hungarian west on a single street
  • Welcome dinner of ćevapi and Bosnian coffee served the traditional way

Every day is led by an English-speaking guide who specialises in Bosnian history.

2Day 2 — Sarajevo — 1914, 1984 and 1992

A full day on the three dates that put Sarajevo into every history book.

  • The Latin Bridge and the corner where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914
  • Vijećnica City Hall, the Austro-Hungarian quarter and the story of the burned National Library
  • Tunnel of Hope museum — the lifeline dug under the airport runway during the siege (entry included)
  • War Museum and the abandoned 1984 Winter Olympic bobsleigh track on Mount Trebević (entry included)

3Day 3 — Medieval Kings — Travnik & Jajce

North into the mountains, to the fortress towns of the Bosnian kingdom and its viziers.

  • Travnik: the Vizier's town, the colourful mosque and the medieval castle above the Lašva (entry included)
  • The birthplace of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić, author of 'The Bridge on the Drina'
  • Jajce: the last Bosnian king was crowned and beheaded here — royal fortress, catacombs and the waterfall in the middle of town
  • Tito's Assembly hall in Jajce, where modern Yugoslavia was founded in 1943 (entry included)

Roman-era Mithras temple and the medieval catacombs are both a short walk from the waterfall.

4Day 4 — Konjic, Tito's Bunker & Ottoman Mostar

Cold War secrets in the morning, Ottoman Herzegovina in the afternoon.

  • ARK D-0, Tito's nuclear bunker at Konjic — a secret command centre inside the mountain (entry included)
  • Konjic's Ottoman stone bridge and the Jablanica lake road along the Neretva
  • Mostar: Stari Most, the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, Crooked Bridge and the old bazaar
  • Panoramic Mostar viewpoint over the bridge and the Neretva gorge (entry included)

5Day 5 — Srebrenica & the Modern Story

A reflective day east, guided by a specialist who knows the events first-hand.

  • Potočari Memorial and Cemetery with a specialist guide and survivor testimony
  • The former UN battery factory, now a museum of the 1995 genocide
  • Quiet lunch stop on the Drina valley road back to Sarajevo
  • Closing session with your guide: Dayton, reconstruction and Bosnia today

This day is handled with care. Tell us in advance if anyone in your group would prefer a lighter alternative.

6Day 6 — Last Morning & Departure

One final coffee in the old town before your flight home.

  • Free morning for the Brusa Bezistan museum, the Gazi Husrev-bey library or last-minute copper souvenirs
  • Private transfer to Sarajevo International Airport

Staying longer? Add Počitelj, Blagaj or the Una valley fortresses as extra history days.

The eras you will walk through
